Jonathan Ostrem, MD, PhD

Principal Investigator

Jon is a chemical biologist and practicing oncologist specializing in the treatment of lung cancer at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Jon completed his graduate training through the Medical Scientist Training Program at UCSF working in the laboratory of Dr. Kevan Shokat developing inhibitors of K-Ras G12C. He completed residency in Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital and fellowship training in Medical Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute working with Dr. Pasi Jänne. Prior to joining UCSF, he completed postdoctoral studies in the laboratory of Dr. Stuart Schreiber at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard studying small molecule mechanism of action and the ubiquitin proteasome system. Outside of lab, Jon loves running, photography, food, and most of all, spending time with his family.

Weicheng Li, PhD

Postdoctoral Fellow

Weicheng is a biophysicist interested in understanding and rewiring the genetic and molecular circuits for synthetic biology and therapeutic purposes. He obtained his Chemistry Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in Dr. Mark Foster’s Laboratory, where he developed an allosteric ligand-binding model for homo-oligomeric proteins and short-sequence repeated RNA. Outside of the lab, Weicheng likes tennis, photography, watching football game, and running along the SF bay shoreline.

Colton Sanders

CCB Graduate Student

Colton is a graduate student in the Chemistry and Chemical Biology program interested in the development of new chemical tools and their applications to study cancer. He completed his bachelor’s degrees in biology and chemistry at UNC Chapel Hill and then pursued a post-baccalaureate position at UCSD. In this role, he worked under the direction of Dr. Stephanie Stanford and Dr. Nunzio Bottini to study the mechanistic role of the low molecular weight protein tyrosine phosphatase (LMPTP) in the development of cardiac fibrosis and prostate cancer. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with friends, going to the movies, traveling, and staying active.

Ryosuke Misu, PhD

Visiting Scientist, Ono Pharmaceutical

Ryosuke is a visiting scientist from ONO Pharmaceutical in Japan. He is a chemical biologist interested in targeted protein degradation as a novel approach to drug discovery. He earned his Ph.D. from Kyoto University in Prof. Nobutaka Fujii Laboratory, where he focused on developing peptidic ligands and their assay systems for GPCRs, as well as chemical probes for visualizing receptor localization both in vitro and in vivo. During his free time, he enjoys fishing, traveling, and drinking beer with his friends.
